DD Statement - temporary data set

This page describes how DD statements can be used to allocate temporary data sets.

Temporary data sets are those which are not required beyond the life of the job. In this example the data set will only exist for the duration of a single program execution. If the data set were required across a step boundary then additional operands might be required.

For performance reasons temporary data sets are more likely to be allocated to disk rather than cartridge.
