EXEC Statement purpose

The primary purpose of the EXEC Statement is to inform the system as to which program or procedure is to be executed.

The concept of procedures is not discussed in this tutorial as ultimately procedures contain EXEC statements which execute programs.

The emphasis therefore is on the REGION= and TIME= operands, whose coding is the same as on the JOB statement, although they have potentially different meaning when on the EXEC statement.
