z/VM File Allocation



The User's Directory Entry should contain a number of ATTACH commands to make devices available, including mini-disks.

It is possible that there is no need for additional allocations, but should they be necessary then the CP LINK Command and CMS ACCESS Command may be of value.

The TSO ALLOCATE command assigns an individual data set, whereas these commands make an entire device available.

z/VM File Allocation commands.



There is no intention to discuss these commands in detail, the aim is to provide an awareness of their existence. The ability to use them will depend upon the User's command authority level.

ATTACH Command - z/VM CP Commands and Utilities Reference

This can be used to connect a real or logical device, such as a disk, to a virtual machine for exclusive use.

LINK Command - z/VM CP Commands and Utilities Reference

This can be used to make a device associated with another virtual machine available to your virtual machine configuration.

ACCESS Command - z/VM CMS Commands and Utilities Reference

This can be used to assist in the management of files on a mini-disk.

VMLINK Command - z/VM CMS Commands and Utilities Reference

This facilitates linking devices, detaching at the LINK level, and releasing access rights.
