Mainframe Perception



The general perception of mainframes is that they look something like this, but this photograph was taken in 1967 and any picture taken today would look radically different.

All the flashing lights have gone, the physical size of the equipment is much smaller even though the computing power has been significantly increased.

Typically there will be an absence of people in the computer room, with the systems being operated from a different room either at the same location or geographically remote.
